In fact, many of today’s most widely used brass products and manufacturing processes can be directly attributed to Mueller Brass.

Mueller Brass Co. has endured through some of America’s most trying times—from World War I and the Great Depression to World War II to COVID-19. While we take pride in having emerged strong from challenging times, our greatest source of pride is that we have helped our nation emerge stronger.

Mueller Metals Company established in Port Huron

Mueller Metals creates forging process to eliminate waste while playing key role in World War I

1918

Mueller Metals Company adapts for peacetime work and begins producing a wide variety of copper, brass, bronze and aluminum products

1924

Mueller Metals changes its name to Mueller Brass Company

1930s

Mueller Brass Company endures the Great Depression through prudent management and a keen eye on expenses

1940

Mueller Brass Company once again turns its focus to military production during World War II, playing a key role in the war effort

1943

The U.S. Navy and U.S. Army present Mueller with an “E” banner for excellence, the highest honor presented to a civilian firm after World War II.

1958

Mueller acquires the American Sinteel Company Yonkers, New York, that manufactured powdered metal parts, and opened an impact extrusion plant in Marysville MI, to supply customers ranging from the aerospace industry to homeowners searching for plumbing parts at local hardware stores.

1965

The company becomes a wholly owned subsidy of the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company (later known as UV Industries)

1979

Sharon Steel Corporation, acquires UV Industries (formerly known as United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company)

1987

Parent company: Sharon Steel Corporation files for bankruptcy, a victim of the declining American steel industry and foreign competition, while Mueller Brass Co. continued normal operations and began to expand due to sales growth

1990

Mueller Industries, a public corporation, emerges from bankruptcy proceedings, led by Harvey Karp while Mueller Brass becomes the Industrial Metals Business segment of the corporation.

1991

$15 Million expansion in the brass rod mill

1993

Productions and shipments from Brass Rod mill were the best in the 75-Year History

2000

MicroGauge is acquired, a neighboring machine shop that was being used as an outsource

2007

Extruded Metals is acquired, a former competitor in West Michigan, leaving only two players in the domestic brass-rod business

2017

Modernization Project Phase One – improvements and modernizations to manufacturing processes and introduction of advanced quality detection software/systems.

Present

Mueller Brass now operates the largest and longest standing American-owned brass mill in North America
